Eight complete takedown chains — grip, entry, finish, and the drill — each one ending in a position you want to be in.
Course contents
Takedown Basics
The standing fundamentals the eight chains are built on — stance, controlling the centre, and creating the reaction you need before any takedown is attempted.
- Introduction
- Basic stance
- Leading the dance and controlling the centre
- Cornering your opponent
- The setup elements
- Basic defense
- Rolling takedown defense
- Head control and controlling posture
- Feinting
The Eight Combos
Each chain taught as four pieces — the setup grip, the takedown, the follow-through into control, and a drill that runs the whole sequence together.
- Takedown combos introduction
- A — snap down, into the swing single, into the body lock back take, plus the drill
- B — the Vagner club, into the blast double leg, into the hip control back take, plus the drill
- C — the jab push, into the double leg, into foot hold control, plus the drill
- D — underhooks, into the shuck to the back, into securing the back, plus the drill
- E — the collar tie, into the half guard pull takedown, into body lock control
- F — the mercy grip, into the mercy grip arm drag, into the step through to half guard, plus the drill
- G — the spring setup, into the butt lock double leg, into shoulder pressure control to low mount, plus the drill
- H — frame to dance, into the mac truck double, into the step through pass, plus the drill
Takedown Defense
Defending the shot, and in several cases punishing it — the single leg defenses go to a kimura trap and a heel hook rather than just to safety.
- The takedown defense balance drill
- The guillotine sprawl defense
- Single leg defense into the kimura trap
- The drag and sit single leg defense
- Single leg defense into the heel hook
- The bottom front headlock counter roll
- The cross grip neck grip break
- Back body lock defense into the knee bar
- Back body lock defense with the granby roll
- Double leg defense: the underhook flip
- The proper way to sprawl
- The Vagner ghost leg defense
- Conclusion
Bonus
One extra takedown, included with the course.
- The Vagner magic trip
